The concept of craniosacral therapy (also called CST – craniosacral therapy) was developed by “Dr. John Upledger” in 1983 and is based on a 1900 study conducted by an American osteopath specialist, “Dr. William G. Sutherland”.
He discovered a surprising fact an intrinsic movements of the head bones, and his research revealed different movement rhythms in the body. He has deduced and demonstrated that these movements are linked with the mental and emotional state and their movement restriction corresponds to a significant reduction of the natural capacity for self-healing.
Alternative to Mental and Physical Balance
Craniosacral rhythm in the body results from increases or decreases of the cerebrospinal fluid volume around and within the craniosacral system.
Craniosacral system consists of :
a) Fluids (Cerebro Spinal Fluid) – fluid, which bathes and surrounds your central nervous system (spinal cord and brain)
b) Membranes (The Membrane System) – a three waterproof membrane sack (meninges) that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord
c) Fascia-a connective tissue, which envelopes every body organ and structure
d) Bones– the Cranium bones are attached to the meninges and also to your cervical vertebres
The role of Craniosacral Therapy is to manipulate the bones of the skull to treat a range of problems, including mental stress, headaches, back and throat pains, chronic pain or fibromyalgia. Different forms of cranial manipulation have been used to improve the overall functioning of the body.
